Consistency
Once you have developed your content, it is important to check that the way you have phrased slide titles, instructions, buttons, questions and response options is consistent throughout your module.
Buttons⚓
Make sure all buttons with the same function have the same label. For example, buttons that direct learners to the next slide should all be labelled in the same way. If you use “Next” on one button, don't use “Continue” on the following page.
Titles⚓
Instructions⚓
Phrase instructions for the same type of activities consistently. For example, drag and drop activities should all have similar instructions. The instructions to play a video should be the same on each slide that contains a video.
Ensure that the instructions and descriptions in the mock-up are consistent with instructions and descriptions in the learning activities. That said, avoid verbatim repetition because this will bore the learner.
Tenses⚓
Do not switch between tenses unless it makes sense.
Speaking to the learner⚓
If the content speaks directly to “you” (the learner), make sure it doesn't later switch to “we”.
Grammar, tone and length⚓
Ensure that response options are grammatically correct and consistent in length and tone. See the"Get personal" section in Tips for writing e-learning content.
