Diversity and inclusion in e-learning material

Introduction

This guide provides a list of topics relevant for diversity and inclusion in e-learning courses. It aims to help you avoid mistakes and offers guidelines for good practices.

When you create an e-learning course, you should do your best to shape it in a way that will reach a diverse audience. Aim to remove as many stereotypes and biases (including unconscious bias) as possible and try to keep in mind the different contexts and backgrounds of your potential learners.

You must first assess the needs of your learners. Then, based on that, you can start building a learning program for them. This should include an assessment of the diversity of nations, races, genders, ages, experience with the topic, technological savviness, disabilities and even the quality of internet connection available to learners.

Once you are done with production, you should include a variety of learners when you are piloting/testing the training.
