E-learning modules often have several different formats that need to be translated. All text that appears on module pages, directly in the module, on image or in videos must be translated.

You first need to map elements for the translation, extract, send for translation and then implement the translation back into the module.

• When creating modules, keep in mind that all the text should be in textboxes so that the export of the .xlif (translation file) has as much data as possible. Use images as backgrounds. Create boxes with the text in the layout designer and put the image in the background of it and the text in the front. Ensure that the background behind the text is a solid colour.

• Keep in mind that you must save extra space for the translation.

• Think about whether the text will wrap in the next row and change the layout of the page.

• Don't forget to change the logo to the appropriate language. Note that in Arabic, you can leave the logo with the ‘ICRC' letters.

• If there are the pop-ups, check all of them for images. Make sure that you click and open every possible pop-up, drop down and expand container – all interactions that have any expansion with new content. Sometimes the .xlif file does not pull all the necessary data and the pop-ups may not be translated. Contact LinPub if that happens.

• If you use images with text, try to limit yourself to the images you have created and can edit. If you don't do that, the process of the editing those images will require advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or another software, depending on the complexity of the image. If it is a solid colour, you may be able to do it in paint. But if there are waves or water drops, you will need Photoshop to edit it.

• Make sure to import assets (video, audio, imagery) so that you have source files. It will be difficult to edit them later if you don't maintain source files.
